Enes Kanter Freedom, 34, retired from the NBA since 2022, filmed himself announcing something no one expected: he wants to play in the WNBA, the U.S. women’s basketball league.
Kanter signed a letter requesting entry into the 2027 Draft. His argument is that the current rules only require “being a woman” to compete, without defining gender identity or sex at birth.
A day later, another former NBA player, Royce White, jumped on the same bandwagon: he said he identifies as transgender and warned that if he is rejected, he will go to court.
Commissioner Cathy Engelbert has already formed a working group with team owners and managers to resolve the mess. Caitlin Clark preferred not to get involved.
