Alvin weighed 30 kilos and couldn’t get up on his own. Almost 6 years ago, he suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed in his hind legs, and since then, his owner, a Brazilian influencer named Ageã, became his legs.
During the night, Alvin would wake up between 4 and 5 times, howling because he wanted to stand up but couldn’t. Ageã would get up each time, hold him, and reposition him. Then came the towels—up to ten changes a day because the dog wet everything—the physical therapy sessions after arriving home tired from work, and those two flights of stairs he went up and down carrying him in his arms because he lived on the second floor with no elevator.
Ageã said that he lost nights of sleep, spent money he didn’t have on treatments, and turned down outings and trips so he wouldn’t leave Alvin alone. He also revealed something painful: some people asked him why he tried so hard “just for a dog”. His answer was simple—only those who love care until the very last second. And little by little, with a harness and patience, Alvin walked again.
Sadly, his life was nearing its end as a result of the aftereffects of the stroke and his age. Even so, his final days were filled with love and care, and that is what matters most.
