Renee Wong and April Lee have known each other since they were 12, at a school in Singapore.
Today they are 29, have been married for two years, and share a home, bank accounts, and plans for the future. What they don’t share is a bed, nor do they feel physical attraction toward each other.
The connection became evident during the pandemic, when they talked for up to 12 hours a day across time zones, until Renee realized something she couldn’t ignore: if April was the person she wanted to be with until the end, why were they living apart?
In 2024, they legally married in Los Angeles. Both are bisexual, but they laugh as they admit that, according to them, “chemically, nothing romantic is going to happen” between the two of them.
Now they plan to have children together, have two female cats, and a Brazilian psychologist says that this type of bond, known as a platonic life partnership, is only just beginning to be studied by science.
