Maria Avila worked as a domestic worker in Chris Brown’s home in Tarzana, California. In 2020, she suffered such a severe dog attack inside that property that a Los Angeles jury determined, in June 2026, that the singer and his company Black Pyramid LLC had to pay her nearly 12.9 million dollars in damages.
Now Brown does not want to appear in court for the debtor’s examination that Avila requested to review his accounts and finances. On August 27, 2026, he filed a motion alleging two things: that he lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, more than 150 miles from the Van Nuys courthouse, and that his ‘The R&B Tour’ with Usher—which could extend through 2027—prevents him from attending.
A judge had already denied him an additional month to provide information about his income from concerts, appearances, and merchandising. While Brown litigates every step of the process, the court has already authorized Avila to collect part of the money generated by that same tour that her former boss uses as an excuse not to appear.
