Danny Tomlinson was 47 years old and had teeth that made him feel bad: crooked, dark, stained. He saw the results of a friend who had undergone treatment in Turkey and made a decision within hours. “I did no research, I just booked it”, admits this floor layer from Essex, England, today. 😬
In December 2020 he flew to Turkey, where his natural teeth were filed down into small stumps and crowns were fitted. The final bill was about $5,000. At first he was happy. But almost immediately the lower teeth started to move. In six years he has returned nine times to the same clinic, and each time the response was the same: they cleaned his teeth and sent him back home without telling him anything.
Today Danny cannot bite into a hamburger without a knife and fork, cannot close his mouth completely, and lives with the constant fear that his teeth could fall out at any moment. The Turkish clinic quoted him another $16,000 to keep working on them. A dentist in the UK warned him that all the upper crowns and several lower teeth will eventually need to be replaced — a cost that could reach $50,000. “I wish I had just gotten braces”, he says. “I would never recommend this to anyone on the planet.” 😔
