Jason Collins, the first player in NBA history to come out as gay after making it public in 2013, died at the age of 47 after several months battling brain cancer, as his family reported through a statement:

“We are heartbroken to share that Jason Collins, our beloved husband, son, brother, and uncle, has passed away after a brave battle with glioblastoma. Jason changed lives in unexpected ways and was an inspiration to everyone who knew him and to those who admired him from afar”, his loved ones, including his husband, said.
