Fernando González wanted to be a professional goalkeeper. He was about to make his debut in Spain’s Tercera División, until his father’s death changed his plans overnight.
He had to hang up his gloves to take over the family restaurant. But instead of bottling up his frustration, he turned it into fuel: he took his son Pedri to every training session and encouraged him to pursue what he could no longer have.
Today, Pedri plays for FC Barcelona and wears Spain’s jersey. And every time he wins a major title, he waits for the stadium to empty before returning to the pitch with his father: he takes a penalty, and Fernando, now over 50 years old, dives to save it as if time had not passed.
