“People always think he’s my dad”: the 26-year-old woman married to a 60-year-old man

She’s twenty-six, he’s sixty. On paper it already sounds like an inevitable conversation at the family dinner table, but out on the street the problem is different: every time they go out together, someone assumes they’re on a father-daughter outing. 😅

The protagonist of this story, published in the British newspaper Mirror, says she’s no longer surprised. The comment—or the look—almost always comes. Sometimes it’s a waiter asking her if “dad” is going to pay the bill. Other times, it’s an acquaintance who comes over with the best intentions and puts their foot in it completely. A 34-year age gap means 34 years of misunderstandings served up with an innocent look.

What amuses them most—or irritates them, depending on the day—is that the couple already has its own protocol for correcting it. Because clarifying that no, he’s my husband, never stops being quite a moment. Has anything similar happened to you? 👀
