Some people need company all the time to feel good. And some enjoy their own silences, their afternoons alone, their own pace. Psychology found that this second group usually has something different in their romantic relationships: more fidelity and more stability.

The explanation is not romantic, it is practical. Someone who is comfortable being alone chooses their partner, they do not use them as a shield against loneliness. That changes everything: greater self-control appears, less impulsiveness, clearer boundaries, and bonds that feel genuine instead of necessary. They also tend to prioritize quality over quantity, building solid connections that withstand the passage of time instead of collecting superficial ties.

That said, enjoying solitude is not the same as isolating yourself. The key lies in being able to feel good with yourself without depending completely on another person to feel whole. Emotional autonomy, according to this research, could be the silent ingredient behind more conscious and loyal relationships.
