The death of Chanchal, a 65-year-old elephant who months earlier had been dyed completely pink for a photo shoot, once again sparked outrage in India and on social media around the world. 😓

Because of this, PETA India asked the government to definitively ban tourist elephant rides, denouncing that many of these animals live chained up and subjected to stress and abuse simply to keep tourists entertained.

The organization even proposed replacing these attractions with robotic elephants or decorated vehicles, something that has already begun to be implemented in some areas of the country.
For many people, Chanchal’s story once again showed the harsh reality faced by numerous animals used in tourism. 💔🐘
