A photograph of Kim Kardashian when she was 13 years old was placed side by side with a current image of her daughter, North West, also 13, and the comparison quickly turned into something much bigger than a simple difference in styles.
While Kim appears in the image with a much simpler, more youthful look, North has shown a completely different aesthetic, with blue hair, makeup, eye-catching jewelry, and several piercings.
And that’s where the discussion began.
“That shows how bad parenting is these days“, one person wrote. “Parents need to do better“, another added. Others were even harsher, questioning whether a teenager can make decisions about changes to her appearance.
But there were also people who defended North and pointed out that every generation experiences adolescence differently and that experimenting with one’s appearance can be part of forming an identity during that stage.
In fact, Kim herself has publicly defended her daughter’s freedom to experiment with her style.
The question left hanging on social media was something else: Where does a teenager’s freedom of expression end, and where do the limits her parents should set begin?
