Nicolas Cage has just received an unexpected visit that no millionaire wants to have in front of their home: a huge sinkhole opened up right at the entrance to his oceanfront mansion in Malibu.
The property, which the actor bought in 2024 for about US$10,5 million, is around 4.000 square feet and was being renovated when the ground began to collapse. No one was inside the home when it happened.
The hole ended up swallowing a large part of the entrance and the nearby street. By afternoon, it had reached approximately 25 feet deep and between 30 and 60 feet wide, leaving huge blocks of concrete and asphalt inside the hole.
The collapse also caused a gas leak, so emergency crews had to intervene. Authorities ultimately declared a local emergency and ordered the evacuation of 31 nearby homes, while seven properties were deemed directly dangerous.
Although the sinkhole initially appeared in front of the mansion, the problem quickly became a threat to the entire neighborhood.
The cause would be related to coastal erosion, heavy rains, and intense surf that battered Malibu after Marie passed through the area. Authorities, however, continue to monitor the ground because conditions could worsen.
And the images look like they came straight out of a movie: a multimillion-dollar mansion facing the ocean and, just a few meters away, a gigantic hole that is literally eating away at the land.
