It is something not just anyone would do for an unknown cat. But this man, named Paul K., is not like most people. Paul has a noble soul. After giving the kitten “Mini” a dignified burial, he posted photographs on Instagram that filled with reactions and comments. He also included text overflowing with tenderness.

“Mini wasn’t really her name, it’s just what she was called, because that’s what she was: a little thing, barely a handful. She was another kitten who appeared out of nowhere, with neither a feline family nor a human family to claim her. Taken as a street kitten but never even made it into a rescue, she just died and that was it. She was like a whisper on the wind, passes fast and faint, and you have to listen closely for the rustle because afterward it’s forever gone. And then she wound up with me out in plot of desert, trying to say goodbye to a cat I never knew. I offered some wan platitudes, let her know the typical stuff about how the brightest stars burn the fastest, laid her down and then dug a hole. When I was done and had covered her up and she was consigned to the earth, I looked up and I noticed that the clouds had come and the sun, which was already sinking, was now completely gone. Mini had stolen the sun!
Mini had stolen the sun! That darned little kitten, she had robbed it from the sky, like the cat toy she never got. And I told her that was just fine. She could chase it, and kick it, pounce upon it and bite it, however she liked. We don’t need it right now I told her, she can play with it for as long as she wants. We don’t need it right now I told her, she can play with it for as long as she wants. So if you look up in the sky today and you don’t see it, don’t worry, it’s just Mini having her fun, she’ll put it back when she’s done with it.”
Mini’s story speaks of those tiny lives that often go completely unnoticed. A stray kitten who appeared without anyone knowing where she came from and whose existence ended before she could even find a home.

The most moving thing is that this gesture did not change Mini’s fate, but it did change the way her story ended. She did not simply die on a road and disappear: someone stopped, picked her up, and felt that she deserved a farewell.

Her little grave remained as a reminder of a life that was brief, but did not go completely unnoticed. Sometimes, even an animal no one ever got to know can inspire enough affection for someone to take the time to say goodbye.

And perhaps that is the most beautiful part of the story: Mini did not have a family during her short life, but in the end someone chose to treat her as if she had been part of one.
