“Aydan sleeps first. Then Mom and Dad”. That’s what little Aydan Hadiff told his mother as he showed her one of his last drawings. The picture showed him lying down and wrapped up, while his parents remained awake beside him. At the time, to his family it was simply a drawing of a child. After his death, that scene took on a completely different meaning.
Aydan was 7 years old and lived in Malaysia. On April 4, 2023, during the month of Ramadan, he was traveling with his family when they were involved in a traffic accident. The boy died from injuries caused by the impact. His mother, Wunny Amir, was devastated and later began looking through some of the last things her son had made.
Among them were his drawings. In one, Aydan had drawn himself lying down and wrapped up, while his parents appeared nearby, still awake. He had also drawn his body without arms or legs. When his mother asked why he had drawn himself that way, he explained that he was turning back into a baby.
After the accident, Wunny looked at those pages again and began connecting them with her son’s death. The drawing in which Aydan appeared wrapped up was especially painful for her because it reminded her of the way he was prepared after he died.
The mother shared photographs of the drawings, and her story was later reported by Malaysian media. To her, those images became one of her last memories of Aydan and a scene that was impossible to look at the same way after the tragedy.
There is no way to know whether the child was anticipating his own death. What does exist is the drawing, the words his mother remembers from that moment, and the coincidence in timing with a tragedy that occurred just a few days later. For Wunny, that sheet of paper ended up becoming a goodbye she never imagined she was receiving.
