At first glance, it looks like a scene from a science fiction movie; however, the image is completely real.
The photographs show the birth of little Noah Valasco, a baby who came into the world without the amniotic sac rupturing, a condition known to doctors as an “en caul” birth or veiled birth.
The case occurred at a hospital in Vila Velha, Brazil, where the medical team recorded the moment before carefully opening the sac to allow the newborn to breathe on his own. According to gynecologist Rafael Angelo Baggieri, this type of delivery occurs in approximately one out of every 80,000 births, so even many professionals never get to witness one throughout their entire careers.
During pregnancy, the baby remains protected by the amniotic sac, a fluid-filled membrane that cushions impacts and supports development. Normally, this sac ruptures before or during delivery, but in very rare cases it remains intact until birth.
Although the image is striking, specialists explain that if the medical team acts quickly, this type of birth does not usually pose an additional risk to the baby.
The photographs went around the world and continue to surprise thousands of people, who say they have never seen anything like it.
