In December 2015, Prestyn Barnette was only 4 years old when he sat beside Santa Claus at a shopping mall in Columbia, South Carolina. Like any child meeting Santa, he started by telling him what he wanted for Christmas: a Lionel train.
But after asking for his gift, Prestyn did something unexpected. He asked Santa to pray with him for Knox Joseph, a baby just 2 months old who was hospitalized in Las Vegas.

Prestyn had never met the little boy. His family had seen a request on Facebook asking people to pray for Knox, and the boy had started including him in his own bedtime prayers.
Santa agreed. The two knelt together and began praying for the baby while Prestyn’s aunt captured the moment in a photograph.

The image was posted on social media and quickly began spreading. It even reached Knox’s family, who were going through one of the most difficult times of their lives.

The baby’s mother said that seeing the photograph brought her joy amid her worry about her son. To her, knowing that a child just 4 years old, who didn’t even know Knox, was thinking of him meant a lot.

The scene ended up becoming one of those photographs that seem to tell a whole story without needing many words: a boy asking for his Christmas gift and, a few seconds later, remembering someone who needed help much more than he did.
