The former UEFA president, three-time Ballon d’Or winner Michel Platini, said on Canal+ that Gianni Infantino “has failed” in his attempt to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors.
“Economic issues are one thing, but I think Infantino has failed because he is the guarantor of the rules of the game and he has not respected them”, Platini said.
“I always knew he really liked money and power. This is a microcosm of people who consider themselves the bosses of football”, referring to Infantino.
Platini, who has known Infantino since Infantino was his secretary general at UEFA, also pointed out irregularities at the latest World Cup: advertising breaks that were against the regulations and the controversial overturning of a red card after a call from Trump.
According to Platini, only the courts could remove him from office. In June, he had already filed a complaint against him in France for influence peddling.
