“Football chews you up and spits you out”. Pablo Álvarez says it without beating around the bush—and he knows, having lived it for 18 years.

From a young age, he had a single goal: to play football and make a living from it. He achieved it. He was a youth player at Boca and won titles, then found regular playing time at Estudiantes, where he became a champion.

Then came six years at Catania in Italy, Real Zaragoza in Spain, and returns to Rosario Central, Racing, and Huracán. ⚽

But the hardest thing didn’t happen on a pitch. Álvarez spoke about the loss of the mother of his children, which he describes as the greatest anguish of his life.

Then came retirement. At 35, society still sees you as completely young, but football has already retired you. According to him, how you get through that stage depends on your personality, the people around you, and each person’s intelligence.

He trained as a coach and sporting director, worked representing footballers, and today is on the other side of the microphone, in communications.
