Mauricio Pochettino revealed to the YouTube channel “We Are The Overlap” that Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé had incompatible playing styles during his time as coach of París Saint-Germain and the problems they had:

“Messi wanted to build from the back, slowly, with combinations and passes. Because he has the quality to have the ball and dribble past one, two, three. If we played for Mbappé, we couldn’t play for Messi”.

“On the other hand, Mbappé, if we were deep and won the ball back, looked for space. It was about giving him the ball and letting him run. But when we played for Messi, Mbappé said: ‘My quality is running, but I can’t’”, the Argentine coach concluded.
