Amid the chaos left by Hurricane Otis in Acapulco in 2023, a deeply human story moved many people.

Officer Arizbeth Ambrosio, a Mexico City police officer, was in Guerrero as part of a support mission from the Secretariat of Citizen Security when a desperate mother told her that her baby hadn’t eaten for more than two days. The mother was unable to breastfeed and hadn’t been able to find milk or food due to the emergency.

Without hesitation, and with the mother’s consent, the officer breastfed the baby, as she was currently lactating. The image of the gesture quickly went viral and was recognized by the Security Secretariat, which highlighted her dedication to service.

Amid the destruction, actions like this are a reminder that empathy toward the most vulnerable can also save lives.
