A 25-year-old employee at a parking lot in downtown San Diego ended up with his head split open. Lathapoun Keovongsa, 20, struck him with the broken handle of a nearly two-meter wooden cane, and when police arrived, he refused to cooperate.

Officers fired non-lethal projectiles to no avail. Only when they released the K9, which bit him on the arm, were they able to subdue him.
The video went viral, but not because of the brutality of the original attack: the comments filled with people outraged to see the dog struggling with the suspect. Misguided empathy or valid concern for the animal? Which side are you on?
