71-year-old Denzel Washington didn’t think too hard about it.
When asked what he would tell his younger self, he didn’t talk about his career or awards. He talked about faith. “Pray more. That’s all. Pray more”, he replied with a smile alongside Jeffrey Wright, his co-star in the new film ‘Highest 2 Lowest,’ directed by Spike Lee. “That’s what I’d tell the young Denzel Washington. Kneel more”.
It’s not a casual gesture. In December 2024, Washington was baptized at Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ in Harlem, New York, and received a ministerial license. Weeks earlier, he had written in Esquire that the most important moment of his life took place in a church in Los Angeles, when he felt himself being filled with the Holy Spirit. A two-time Oscar winner, he now prefers to talk about another kind of trophy.
