Kevin Reddington knew he was asking for something impossible.
He acknowledged as much on Good Morning America this Tuesday: Donald Trump has no legal authority to pardon Lindsay Clancy because the charges she faces are state charges, not federal ones. And yet he asked anyway. “Mr. President, I hope you will take this young woman and the person she is, what has happened, into account and consider granting her a pardon”, the lawyer said.
Clancy is accused of killing her three children —Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and baby Callan, 8 months old— on January 24, 2023, in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Her trial ended in a mistrial on September 4, after the jury voted 11 to 1 without reaching a unanimous verdict. President Trump has not spoken about the lawyer’s request, but he had already referred to the case, describing the events as “something horrible” and warning that there would be “a price” to pay, whether it be “a psychiatric facility, a prison or something like that”. The next hearing is scheduled for September 29.
