Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are not returning as leads. The new Prison Break, produced for Hulu, cuts the cord with the Scofield and Burrows brothers to bet on a completely different group of inmates trapped in the same universe that fans know by heart.
Actor Lukas Gage, one of the confirmed names in the new cast alongside Emily Browning, Drake Rodger, and Clayton Cardenas, was the one who hinted at the change in tone: the streaming format gives the production freedoms that broadcast television never had, and the promised result is a grittier, more mature atmosphere than the original series that aired between 2005 and 2009.
What no one is revealing yet is which members of the classic cast could appear. Gage confirmed that there are talks about special cameos, but the names are under strict secrecy. Hulu has not set a release date either. The series is already halfway through filming, and the question hanging in the air is how much of the old Prison Break will survive in this version.
