Five days. That was how long Giselle spent trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building in Caraballeda, La Guaira state, after two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 shook northern Venezuela on June 24, 2026.
A rescue team from El Salvador found her alive among the remains of the building. The video, shared by Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele himself, shows the exact moment Giselle licks the face of the person who pulled her out of there, still weak, while a doctor feeds her with a syringe.

More than 100 rescue dogs arrived from countries such as Spain, Mexico, Peru, and Turkey to help in the search for survivors. Amid so much destruction, Giselle’s story became the symbol that there were still reasons not to lose hope. 🐾
