Nora had been battling cancer for months when the day she had been looking forward to finally arrived.
Her children decided to mark the date in a simple way: they put a sign on the car that read “My last chemo” and set off toward the hospital in Argentina. They had no idea what would happen next. At every traffic light and every intersection, other drivers read the message and responded by honking, sticking their hands out the windows, or shouting words of encouragement, despite not knowing Nora at all.
“We came up with the idea of putting the sign on the car, but we didn’t expect people to empathize with us so much”, her daughter said afterward. She herself acknowledged that countless cars stopped just to wish strength to a woman they had never seen before. Nora finished her treatment surrounded by applause from strangers who turned an ordinary journey into the closing of an incredibly difficult chapter of her life.
