There are acts of cruelty that are difficult to understand even after learning the explanation.
Laura Cunliffe was sentenced in the United Kingdom after putting Mowgli, her barely four-month-old kitten, inside a microwave because she thought he had attacked her goldfish.
According to what was explained during the trial, Cunliffe turned on the appliance and left the small animal inside for approximately one minute. Although Mowgli came out alive, he died approximately 90 minutes later from the injuries he sustained.
The court described what happened as an act of “utterly horrendous cruelty” and sentenced her to 14 weeks in prison. In addition, she was banned from owning animals for life.
The case took place in the United Kingdom in 2014 and caused strong outrage precisely because of the animal’s vulnerability and the motive that triggered the punishment.
