He doesn’t do it because he wants to get back together with her. Billy has two little ones watching him, and he knows that one day they will learn to love, in part, by watching how he treats their mom.
Billy Flynn Gadbois was 39 when he explained why, despite being divorced, he continued to do thoughtful things for his ex-wife. On her birthday, for example, he got up early, bought flowers, cards, and a gift for his children to give her, and also helped them make her breakfast.

The questions soon followed. Many wanted to know why he continued doing those things for a woman he was no longer in a relationship with. His answer was simple: “I’m raising two little men”.
Billy believes that the way his children see him treat their mother will influence how they treat women and their own partners someday. That’s why he believes divorce shouldn’t prevent them from continuing to see respect, affection, and cooperation between their parents.
“Rise above the problem and set an example. This is bigger than any one of us”, he wrote. His marriage had ended, but for Billy, something remained intact: the responsibility to show his children what kind of men he hoped they would be someday.
