Litzy Lara Banuelos, known as Emily Willis, was 27 years old when her heart stopped at a rehabilitation center in Malibu, California. A nurse found her unconscious on February 4, 2024, eight days after she had entered sober and determined to change her life.
Paramedics managed to revive her after 40 minutes, but the damage had already been done: irreversible brain injury from lack of oxygen left her unable to speak, walk, or move. Today, she depends on her mother’s care 24 hours a day.
