Rebel Wilson was 35 when she had her first sexual experience. For a long time, she had felt ashamed that she had never had sex and even thought: “Oh my God, I’m 35. What the hell? I’m going to look like the biggest loser”. However, her mother’s illness made her reconsider some things and think that “life is short”, so she decided she was ready to take that step.
The man was Mickey Gooch Jr., an actor and comedian whom she met through her Pitch Perfect castmate, Hana Mae Lee. The two began a relationship that would last about six months. Before her first time, Wilson said she prepared in her own way: she had tried a vibrator and had also watched some adult films. The encounter took place while she was staying at a hotel during the filming of How to Be Single.
Wilson did not provide a graphic description of the experience, but she did share some personal details. She said she was “almost at her heaviest weight” and that Gooch made her feel desired. After the encounter, she went to the bathroom and gave a “high-five” to herself, celebrating that she had finally taken the step she had considered impossible for so many years.
The curious thing is that Mickey Gooch Jr. did not know Wilson was a virgin when they were together. He found out years later, when he read Rebel Rising, even becoming the first person to read the memoir manuscript. Wilson said she decided to reveal her story because she wanted to relieve the pressure on those who feel they should have experienced certain things by a particular age.
Her sex life continued to evolve after that first experience. In her memoir, Wilson also revealed that she did not have her first orgasm until she was 39, something she described as part of a process in which she began to get to know her own body better and feel more comfortable with her sexuality.
Wilson ultimately turned an experience that had caused her shame for years into a story she chose to tell publicly. Her message was clear: “Not everyone has to lose their virginity as a teenager”. For her, having waited until 35 did not mean she was late, but rather that she did it when she finally felt ready.
Today, Rebel’s story is very different: she is married to designer Ramona Agruma, and together they have formed a family. They have two daughters: Royce Lillian, born in 2022 via surrogacy, and Rose Estelle, who was born in May 2026 after a long process of in vitro fertilization. Thus, the woman who once spoke with humor and vulnerability about her insecurities regarding love and her body now lives a completely different chapter, alongside her wife and their two daughters.
