Five bodies. A single position: embracing. That is how rescuers found a Venezuelan family among the rubble of a collapsed building after the double earthquake that shook the country on June 24.
The video, shared by the account @dronesoriangel, shows something that needs no explanation: the father and mother had covered their three small children with their own bodies, as if with that final gesture they could stop the earth from collapsing on top of them. They did not succeed. But when you see that image, you understand exactly what they were trying to do.
Venezuela now has nearly 2,000 dead and tens of thousands missing since that early morning of magnitude 7.3 and 7.5. Amid so much destruction, there are stories like this one that are not about numbers, but about what a father and a mother are capable of doing until the very last second of their lives.
