At 72, Nicky Crawford realized that a shower could be just the beginning. After retiring from decades of work in construction, they remembered a man who distributed hygiene items to people experiencing homelessness and then bought a motor home with a shower. “God brought that story back to me years later”, they recalled. In 2022, they founded Flowing with Blessings to offer free mobile showers in Atlanta.
While serving people experiencing homelessness, Crawford noticed that the odor often came from their clothes. They bought a school bus and asked Georgia Tech for help; industrial design students transformed it into a mobile laundry. The organization also offers haircuts and hot meals, serving about 60 people per day of operation. “What we’re trying to do is make sure they have clean clothes for the week”, Crawford explained.
