There are definitely better ways to escape your wife than robbing a bank 😂.
In 2016, 70-year-old Lawrence Ripple argued with his wife at their home in Kansas. The argument escalated to the point that he wrote a note in front of her saying he would rob a bank and told her that he preferred being in prison to continuing to live with her.
Then he went to a bank branch, handed the note to a teller, and received about 3.000 dollars. But he never tried to escape: he calmly sat in the lobby and waited for the police to arrive.
When the officers appeared, Lawrence explained his unusual objective to them. He wanted them to send him to prison so he could get away from his wife.
The problem arose when it came to sentencing. The judge decided not to send him to jail and sentenced him to six months of house arrest.
He wanted to escape from home and ended up legally required to stay there.
