In 2005, in a small town in Kenya, Robert Mutai Chelogoi began to notice something minor on his face. No one imagined then that it was the beginning of a 23-year battle.

Doctors suspected Noma, a little-known infection linked to malnutrition and lack of medical care, which progressed until it left him blind. His family sold land, animals, almost everything they had, seeking treatment that never fully came. And amid that constant loss, there was one person who never left his side: his wife, present every day, without conditions.

His story only became publicly known when a Kenyan content creator decided to share it. Donations then arrived, and with them, specialized care at Kenyatta National Hospital. But time had already done its part: Robert died on March 15, 2026, after 23 years of holding on. His ending does not speak of defeat, but of how much love can endure when it chooses not to give up.
