In an interview with the outlet Esporte Record, Romário was asked which footballers he believes surpassed him throughout history, to which the Brazilian responded with four names:
“Pelé, Maradona and Messi played better than me. Maybe Garrincha. Ronaldo Nazário and I are on the same level. Ronaldinho? He was a little below”, said the Brazilian, who was also asked about the name Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I understand that they were more complete than me, they had more quality than me. And when I talk about those who played less, I was more complete than them. For example, Cristiano Ronaldo, I have heard him say and I read that he is the best player of all time. For me he is not, but I respect that position one hundred percent, that he has that right. He can be among the five best forwards”, concluded the former footballer.
