Her lifelong owner died, and she ended up in the cages at NAWS Humane Society, not understanding why there was no longer a home waiting for her. No one wanted to adopt an old cat: visitors were looking for the energy of kittens and passed right by the tired eyes of the 14-year-old furry girl, and the 3 times she thought she would have a home, she was disappointed again.
Ruby is still looking for her forever home. Ruby likes other cats but prefers a home without dogs. She has chronic kidney disease, and is partially blind. However, her loving personality had finally sealed the deal with an adopter, and everything was ready for her to go home that same week, but Ruby’s body could not endure the wait. She died surrounded by the staff and volunteers who had cared for her, without ever getting to know the sunny window that was waiting for her. She did not have the fairy-tale ending everyone wanted for her, but she left knowing that, until her last day, someone chose her.
I’m beyond heartbroken to be delivering this news to you all. Ruby was struggling with kidney disease and was clearly at the last leg of her life. My heart is forever grateful to Ruby’s fosters Shelly and Maria who fought for her well being and who selflessly dedicated so much time to making sure she was comfortable during her last days.
