The most ironic thing is that he tried to avoid exactly the kind of accident he ended up suffering.
Ryan Reynolds was 18 when he left a bar in Vancouver after having a beer. Since he didn’t want to drive after drinking, he decided to leave his car and walk home.
He didn’t get very far.
As he walked down the street, a drunk driver hit him. The impact was so severe that, as he recalled years later, he broke every bone on the left side of his body and had to spend nearly four weeks in the hospital.

Reynolds recalled the incident while talking about the decisions that can change a life in seconds. In his case, he had chosen not to get behind the wheel, but ended up paying the price for someone else choosing to do so.
For years, he hardly spoke publicly about the accident, but when he recalled it, he was direct about how brutal it was: “I broke every bone on my left side”.
He made a responsible decision to avoid putting anyone at risk and ended up learning the hard way that all it takes is for someone else not to do the same.
