13-year-old Safira Gomes was walking down a street in Ibirité, Minas Gerais, Brazil, taking her younger sister to school when a beehive fell from the top of a nearby tree. Within seconds, the swarm descended on her, and Safira was left virtually motionless, surrounded by bees.
She received more than 100 stings.
That was when Vinícius appeared; a motorcycle delivery rider saw what was happening and decided to stop to help her.
A camera mounted on his helmet recorded him plunging into the swarm to try to pull the girl out, himself receiving around 40 stings during the rescue.
But he wasn’t alone in this fight. A group of women workers heard the screams and opened the doors of the premises to take Safira in. They used hoses to try to wash the bees off her body while waiting for emergency services to arrive. One of the volunteers said they even found insects near her airways and inside her ears.
Four days later, the girl was still hospitalized, but the swelling had gone down, and she could already speak and eat more easily.
What I feel now is immense gratitude to God for sending him to help me. I thought I would be trapped there and that no one would help me,” Safira said. 🥹
