Samantha, 59, had legs so swollen that they weighed 21 kilos each.

For two decades, she carried a body she did not recognize: scaly skin, sores that bled at the slightest knock, and a weight that forced her to leave her job. Doctors only told her to lose weight, without diagnosing the real cause. Meanwhile, strangers on the street pointed at her and called her fat, unaware that behind those legs was a disease called lymphedema, a failure in the system that drains fluids from the body.

Everything changed when she traveled to London with her sister Michelle to consult dermatologist Emma Craythorne. With intensive compression treatment and weeks of daily bandaging, Samantha managed to lose 21 kilos (47 pounds) in four months. Today, she can walk again without the weight of two children hanging from her legs, and her story was documented in the British program The Bad Skin Clinic.
