Samuel L. Jackson, one of Hollywood’s most famous actors, has millions of followers watching everything he posts. On July 20, 2026, hours before the World Cup final, he chose to share on his Instagram stories a message saying that Argentina “has historically been one of the most racist, if not the most racist, countries in the world”.

The text was not his. It had been written by the SEC Black Alumni Network organization, and it urged the Black community not to support the Argentine national team. Jackson reposted it without adding a single word of his own, accompanied by an image of himself as Stephen, his character in Django Unchained, wearing the albiceleste jersey.

So far, neither the actor nor Argentina’s Foreign Ministry has commented publicly. The post has already circulated in media outlets in several countries and left a question hanging: how much weight does a celebrity’s word carry when they use it to amplify something they did not even write themselves?.
