Mexico won two matches at the 2026 World Cup, but the one who racked up the million views was Sandra Cuevas. The 40-year-old former mayor of the Cuauhtémoc borough in Mexico City appeared celebrating the national team’s victories in a white top with a generous neckline — and social media did the rest. 🙈

When the criticism arrived, Cuevas did not defend herself with a formal statement. She defended herself with humor: “I can’t simply take them off”, she said, in direct reference to her breast implants. She added that she did not take it as an attack: “that’s how we Mexicans are”. Within hours, the phrase became the most retweeted comment of the day.

The most nostalgic were quick to compare her to La Chiquitibum — Mar Castro, the iconic figure who stole the 1986 World Cup in Mexico in the same way. Apparently, the national team is not the only thing with history in these tournaments. 🇲🇽
