Sarah Khalifa was 39 years old and hosted a program that discussed security and crime.
It was called ‘Mission Impossible,’ and she hosted it for more than 2 million followers on Instagram, while off-camera — according to the Egyptian justice system’s ruling — she was building an organization dedicated to importing substances, manufacturing synthetic narcotics, and trafficking them. She was found with more than 750 kilograms of drugs and clandestine laboratories. They also found unlicensed weapons in her possession.
On Saturday, a Cairo court sentenced her to be hanged along with 11 other people, all of whom were also fined 500,000 Egyptian pounds, about 9,800 dollars. The full case involved 28 defendants: nine received life sentences and seven were acquitted. Khalifa was arrested in April 2025 and has denied the charges ever since. Now her only option is to appeal to Egypt’s Court of Cassation.
