For them, saving a life did not depend on whether it had two legs or four paws.
The Phoenix Fire Department responded in the early morning hours to a house fire in Arizona. When they arrived, they found a large amount of smoke and flames coming from the garage, while some of the team battled the fire and other firefighters began searching the inside of the house.
It was during that search that they found a cat trapped inside. They brought it outside and, once it was safe, used a “Fido Mask”, an oxygen mask specially designed to fit over animals’ snouts and help them breathe after inhaling smoke.
The department itself shared images of the moment when the firefighters treated the feline outside the home. Shortly afterward, they were able to reunite it with its owner.
The fire left a family of four temporarily homeless, so they also received assistance from the city’s community program. The cause of the fire was not reported.
The scene especially moved other pet owners: losing a home would be devastating, but for many, leaving it without their four-legged companion would be even worse.
