The Brazilian woman, then 53 years old, had amassed R$9.000, equivalent to around US$1.760 in 2024. At the current exchange rate, that same amount is around US$1.750. She kept the banknotes inside a book in her wardrobe and planned to use the money, among other things, to start a renovation on her house.
When she finally opened the hiding place, she discovered that insects had devoured a large part of the banknotes. Some were full of holes, and only fragments remained of others. 🐛📚
Some of the remains were sent to the Central Bank to determine whether they still had any value. The case began circulating again on social media and served as a warning to those who still keep their savings at home. 💰
