A private school in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was ordered to pay multimillion-dollar compensation after discriminating against a student with autism spectrum disorder.
The institution and its legal representative imposed administrative obstacles starting in 2019, refusing to sign the paperwork so the child could have a therapeutic aide, and even suggested that he attend a special school.
“At the new school, within a month, they managed to arrange a therapeutic aide”, the civil court ruled when comparing the speed of the new school the mother had to transfer him to in 2021, after four years of obstacles.
The court ruling determined that there had been covert exclusion. For the moral harm and psychological impact caused, the authorities must pay more than 12 million pesos, about 8,000 dollars approx, to the mother and another 3 million to the minor.
