A school in Mexico sparked major controversy on social media after putting up a sign addressed to mothers asking them to come “in appropriate clothing” when picking up their children.

The notice, which went viral in September 2022 and was reportedly posted at a school in Saltillo, Coahuila, banned garments such as minishorts, miniskirts, low-cut or sheer blouses, even warning that they could be sent back home to change.

The measure divided opinion: while some defended the school’s supposed “order”, many people criticized the message for considering it sexist and a way of controlling how women dress.
