In 1992, an event that occurred in the Santa María parish in Buenos Aires drew attention and debate in religious circles when a host, which had been placed in water to dissolve, took on an appearance similar to organic tissue.

The material was preserved for years and, some time later, at the initiative of the then-cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, samples were sent to the United States for forensic analysis.

According to the reports, the studies concluded that it was human myocardial tissue with intact white blood cells and signs of cellular activity, in addition to showing a state of intense stress comparable to what is observed in situations of acute suffering, results that generated astonishment and continue to fuel questions beyond conventional scientific explanations.
