Eleven years. That was how long James Mogaji went without seeing his family in Nigeria while working as a security guard at Providence College.
Every morning he greeted the same students, watched over the same hallways, and silently carried the distance separating him from his loved ones. They noticed. They knew that behind that uniform was a father, a husband, a man who had been putting his own life on hold for a long time for the sake of others. So they organized a GoFundMe campaign, without telling him a word, to pay for his trip home.
What started as an idea among students ended with more than 30.000 dollars raised. When they gave James the news, he could not hold back his tears. No one simply gave him back a plane ticket: they gave him back the time the world had taken away from him.
