Sergi had not planned to be there. The invitation arrived the night before, unexpectedly, through a volunteer linked to the JEPI group.
He and his girlfriend María had returned exhausted from the meeting with the Pope at Barcelona’s Olympic Stadium and hesitated to repeat the adventure the next day at the Sanctuary of Montserrat.

But they went. And when Pope Leo XIV passed by in the popemobile, Sergi pulled out his rosary with a single idea in mind: to get a blessing. The pontiff kept it. Minutes later, to his complete astonishment, he saw the Pope praying with that very rosary in his hands during the visit to the sanctuary.

When the event ended, it was María who had the idea of trying to get it back. Sergi ran all the way downhill and was about to give up, but she encouraged him to keep going.
The security motorcade could not stop, so he made the only possible decision: shout to the Pope to throw it to him. And that is what happened. The rosary returned to his hands, already prayed with by the Pope.
