Makaela Muse crossed the stage at the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas, with Sadie walking by her side. She was not a prop pet for the photo: that German shepherd has been her service dog for years, accompanying her to every class, every exam, every university hallway.
On May 16, 2026, Muse graduated with a degree in Animal Sciences. But before her moment was over, Texas Tech president Lawrence Schovanec did something no one expected: he handed Sadie her own diploma. A rawhide bone tied with a red ribbon. A “dogploma”.
The entire audience stood up. Sadie received it with the same calmness with which she did everything else, and left the stage alongside the woman she helped get there.
